Across the Globe
Fusion has seen these small groups of friends using Open Crowd Community Festivals as a catalyst for bringing people together and restoring hope in villages, towns and cities around the globe...
Effective Open Crowd Community Festivals build and strengthen a ‘redemptive network.’ This is where Christians and others of goodwill use these events to create a glimpse of their community as they yearn for it to be. They build networks of hope where people continue investing in further celebrations and a range of other community development programmes in response to the community’s needs.
Sydney Games 2000
During the 1990's local Christians worked together to connect with 2 million Australians
in 350 localities. In 2000 at the Sydney Games 120 Festivals reached out to 250,000 people.
One Church that had been unsure that it would “work” was delighted when 50 new people turned up to their Church the following Sunday.
Albania Games 2004
Birthed from Athens Games 2004, Fusion made contact into Korce, Albania and a year later ran
3 Festivals in their city. Five years on, Festivals are a regular part of a mission movement across the south, with many coming to faith through youth day trips. In the summer of 2010 local teams ran 30 Festivals in 40 days with teams of over 100 young trained people. In one city the Mayor
said, “You are my best friends, you are able to do what we cannot do.”
India, Commonwealth Games 2010
3 days of Festivals started on the Opening Night in communities across the Sub-Continent to
celebrate the Commonwealth Games. The 4th night saw the launch of Kids Clubs with children from the Festivals. They have continued since then. After 1 Festival, over 50 children joined the
Sunday School.
Jamaica, Cricket World Cup 2007
In Jamaica, the country with the 4th highest per capital murder rate in the world, local churches
worked together to put on 3 days of Festivals in Trench Town. The community came together peacefully in spite of high tensions following a murder just days before the event. Afterwards,
the small group of committed friends has continued to serve through Kids Clubs, work
in Schools, Youth Day Trips, research and other initiatives. With Festivals continuing 3 times a
year since then, the murder rate recorded by the police has dropped to less than 25% of its former levels.
